Here’s a clip from a Fox 25 News segment this morning about Paul Nardizzi’s new Sox book: How To Annoy A Yankees Fan (considering that I’m a New Yorker, my guess is that this blog qualifies). Despite the lame interview by epic cornball Gene Lavanchy, this is good stuff; Paul and his co-author Dave Barend are hilarious.

As an added bonus, my longtime Boston Phoenix (and Weekly Dig before that) artist-collaborator Mark Poutenis did all the illustrations. Check these dudes at the Baseball Tavern this weekend. No doubt I’ll be pre-gaming there for the Saturday showdown against New York.

So I’m behind enemy lines at Yankee Stadium this past Friday - more on that coming shortly - and I notice a familiar face pop up on the screen above the noodle stand. It’s Bob Kaufman from Bob’s Discount Furniture, who, if I remember correctly, is also in bed with the Red Sox. I’m pretty sure that this IS NOT okay. The fucking guy’s in pinstripes in this picture, for Chrissakes. As far as background, Bob’s is a Connecticut-based operation, which means that he’s allowed to go either way. But with that said, he shouldn’t be able to have it both ways. Zoom

It wasn’t the best season, but it was a blast nonetheless. Glad I got to see the Sox smack the Yankees up last night. It’s too bad that someone had to get stabbed in the process, but what are you gonna do? BTW - those marks on my head are from my sunglasses. I don’t have some weird Alien Nation thing going on or anything like that. Zoom

Do the Yankees Still Suck?

Sox-Yanks

I’ve been waiting for this moment - when the Yankees beat the Red Sox for the first time all season. You see - I’ve always wondered how a squad that smacks your team - that you presumably think is good - can suck. Ever heard of “inference?”

Obviously the correct answer here is that the Yankees don’t suck, and that Sox fans who chant such are white trash shitheads. But don’t hate on me just yet; gauging by anecdotal evidence that I gathered around Fenway yesterday, a lot of New York fans are equally ignorant.

Much like the Hutus and Tutsis, Jews and Palestinians, and any other two groups that are more alike than dissimilar but loathe one another nonetheless - you’re all fools. No doubt I’ve already began the chapter for my book about the comparable stupidity between these two tribes.

Lastly - I was a writer for Boston’s Weekly Dig a few years ago when this cover (pic above) hit the streets, and it still hangs on my wall at home. Not because I like watching bears make out; not because I yearn for reconciliation; just because it makes my dumb-ass Sox fan friends more uncomfortable than the pregnant prostitute who lives in my bathtub.
